MGR actually gives the action and dialog segments room to breathe, while also integrating QTEs in a less intrusive manner. To add insult to injury, the constant button mashing in Bayonetta is a first-class ticket to getting tendinitis. There was potential, since the core gameplay and the lead cast are strong enough in their own right, but it goes to show that a game meant to be over-the-top is still going to suffer if the level design doesn’t show some restraint.

Ten years after being release, Bayonetta still holds up as being a phenomenal game and hardly shows any age in terms of gameplay. The story is wacky and over-the-top. Bayonetta is sassy, sexy, and charming and all the characters within the storyline are unique and individual. Each of the character’s personalities are pretty extreme and exaggerated but with the intention of making you laugh, have fun, and preparing you for the wild ride.

Even after completing the game three times it is still a joy for me to play, which just shows how well executed the combat system is. It also helps that there is a solid amount of freedom and creativity in how you structure combos, and that there are a plethora of different weapons to unlock which all control uniquely.
