I have a funny story about this game. When I was young, all my friends were playing CoD but my Dad wouldn’t let me get rated M games. T games were fine by his standards, so one day when I went to GameStop at the mall with my mom I saw Call of Duty 2 for Xbox 360 in the bargain bin for $10. I didn’t know how to use the internet because I was so young, but I recognized the name of the game and saw it was rated T. I asked my mom to buy it for me and she did! Here’s the kicker, I never played the game because I couldn’t get past the first mission!

Where to even start with this game? Well first, I should mention that I play the game to speedrun the campaign, so the best information I can give you is solely from the campaign portion. Going into the campaign, this is on par with the difficulty of World at War, which is possibly the hardest CoD campaign to avoid dying in. The gunplay and movement (like most CoD games released from 2003 – 2012) is among the best of the fps genre to date.
I’ve always said this and will keep saying this: games whose engines are based off of the quake engine are just superior. Both strafe jumping and shooting feel so good working in tandem, it’s indescribable the feeling you get when you begin to master these skills. The story is solid and pretty realistic for a WW2 shooter that came out in 2005. Honestly, I would recommend this to anyone who was a fan of the old school shooters, but if you consider a 5-6 hour campaign a bit too short it may not be worth the price of its normal 20$ tag. I would wait until an Activision sale happens, which luckily enough there is one at the time of me posting this :-).
The first proper Call of Duty. They added the regen system used in every game after the first, so it is much less difficult on the harder difficulties. I also am enjoying the level design more. There is even a system where you can choose to skip around the game and play through the different countries’ campaigns in whichever order you like so long as you finish each first level. The occasional weapon is thrown in as well that wasn’t in the first game or seemingly games since. I’d still rate World at War as the best, but if you’re a nostalgic type, you may like this game.
