Pets is an autobrawler in the style of Hearthstone Battlegrounds or Storybook Brawl. Overall, if you’ve enjoyed the gameplay of those games, I can recommend Super Auto Pets without reservation, but if those games didn’t appeal to you, Super Auto Pets probably isn’t going to change that, with one exception: there is no time-pressure in the ‘Arena’ mode. In that mode, you get an unlimited amount of time to decide on animals for your team and do upgrades at your own pace. If you didn’t like the time-pressure of the other autobrawlers, this is the one for you. After deciding on your team, it is then submitted to the server, and another player’s team is matched against it. (I presume this is not happening in realtime, but instead a team from a recently submitted player is pulled from a database.) However, if you prefer a more traditional mode with players competing in realtime, there is a ‘Versus’ mode for that too.
There are minor game design differences (level three upgrades, food to buff your animals), and while those changes which work, they are minor innovations, and the biggest selling point here is completely asynchronous play with no time pressure.Super fun and addicting game. Easy to learn, but deceptively deep. The free starter pack alone offers dozens of hours of fun, and the free pack that is generated weekly, which includes the animals from the paid packs, lets me play for free without feeling like I’m missing out on the paid content!
