Excellent expansion. It has an interesting story revolving around a city full of ash, death and passing away. The feel and locations add to the grim feel and atmosphere of the DLC . The items you get are mostly useful and fun to use. From armor, to spells to weapons. Most of them have a place in your equipment slot. There is even a pair of ultragreatswords for you to use. Recommended to equip them with smough armor for maximum results. The enemies are rather well done and sometimes force you to change tactics (for example there is a giant wizard that summons dozens of ethereal archers and it’s better to avoid him). Some of the enemies are reskins though. One of the minibosses is a literal boss from the base game that drops a cool set of armor. Should have been in the base game.

Lastly most of the bosses are absolutely epic fights. The fina l boss is arguably the most epic in the series. When it comes to downsides this DLC unfortunately has some. As mentioned above some enemies are reused. A bigger problem is that this DLC has a very rough difficulty spike. It feels as if they designed it with NG+ players in mind. So on the first run you can hit a couple of wall with some enemies. It gets better with levels though.

It’s got much tougher fights and much prettier skyboxes than the main game, so if you’re a real freak for Dark Souls 3, this should be right up your alley. If you’re not, and you thought the main game was just okay or even unfun, you’ll probably find this to be annoying as hell, and constantly frustrating you for no real reason. It’s also even more creatively bankrupt than the first game, bringing youto the supposed end of the world in order to show you a bunch of stuff that’s somehow left over from Dark Souls 1. Again, if you’re just in it for the obnoxiously tough fights and pretty views, this is for you, but if not, don’t bother.
