Played through the whole campaign in about 3-4 hours, but just about every mission had good variety and felt unique. Sound design is great, characters feel organic, and gameplay has good weight to it whether you’re laying down lead with a Vulcan or knifing someone up close.
Unlike Call of Duty – Black Ops II, this actually gets Afghanistan right. The setting looks like the mountains I flew over and the valley I rucked in. It looks like Afghanistan, it sounds like Afghanistan, and despite the game-isms, does a good job of telling the story. Little things stand out to me – the visible selector switch from semi to full, the relatively realistic weapons models, the radio chatter and dialogue – as authentic. There are some reality breakers, like a general in a suit during cutscenes or the wrong time period highspeed gofast gear on dudes in a game set in 2001, but I can put them aside and enjoy the atmosphere.
The campaign isn’t going to appeal to everyone. It’s shorter than some, and it’s not full of Michael Bay explosions like the Call of Duty series (which I also own). What makes the single player shine is that it’s based on real events. The set pieces (vehicle sections, stand-and-fights) are well presented, and logically flow with the game. There’s a sense of being part of a larger picture with the radio chatter between AFOs Neptune and Wolfpack and their boss (‘Jimmy,’ or COL Drucker in the cutscenes). Your actions make sense, and several times throughout the game you’ll see the other AFO doing their part of the missions.
It’s worth picking up, on sale or full price, and getting a solid play through. If you want to see a more realistic shooter than the Call of Duty series with a story grounded in actual events, this is the one. This is probably the most under-appreciated military shooter in recent memory for me, purely as an on-the-rails gut wrench adrenaline ride (the downhill scramble to the chopper and the stand-your-ground sequences in particular). Yeah, there’s hand-holding, but it the game it makes sense. No one plays rambo in real life, because that’s how you die.

Medal of Honor (2010) is definitely an unmissable title. Although the game is now 7 years old, the visuals are still quiet impressive and beautiful and the game often has a very cinematic feel to it. Guns feel weighty and the gunplay is fairly satisfying. Shotguns, snipers and grenades all have the ability to dismember and decapitate your enemy and makes for some some satisfying long distance sniper sequences. Other immersive details in regards to the weaponry is that dust is thrown into the air from gunshot impacts, resulting in a lot of visually appealing gunplay.
The singleplayer campaign consists of a prologue, “day one” and “day two”, each with their own number of missions in each. You’ll play as 2 different special forces operatives, one US army ranger, and even an appache helicopter weapons operator for one mission. Gameplay ranges from stealth operations to full blown out combat and anything in between. It is definitely a good blend of realism and action with stealth and slow paced sections to break up the action.
The campaign does feel quite short however does give a good range of gameplay experience and is one of the most enjoyable singleplayer experiences I’ve had with an FPS for a while now. I haven’t yet tried the multiplayer and I’m not entirely sure if anyone still plays this online, however the campaign was enough to hook me onto this game.If you’re not quite totally convinced about buying MoH, wait until a sale, or get it now whilst the summer sale is on, like I have. It’s certainly a must play. 9/10
