Overview My first Furry:

My first Furry I really enjoyed this game. The scenery was wonderful and the music was spot on. It left me with a melancholy haunted sort of feeling. The storyline drew me in and made me want to keep going, to find out what happened to Ethan, The only downside was how short the play-time is, and that once you play it through it’s not really the sort of game to play again. There is essentially no guidance for the game and you do spend a lot of time wandering around because of that, which may be a pro or con depending on what type of games you enjoy.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter” is a visually stunning walking simulator with interaction through puzzles and detective work, complemented by a beautiful soundtrack as you explore the mysteries of Red Creek Valley. What made this game appealing was the scenery, especially after learning that the developers used photogrammetry to make the objects and location look so realistic. The voice acting of Paul Prospero, played by Marty Allen,

was the highlight for me (I didn’t care for the other voice work that much), with haunting dialogue/prose that mention the ghosts of memories, and the kinds of darkness that haunt the town and people. The solving murders part was nothing new, and while there wasn’t tons of detective work, I thought the sections with written text over the clues was a neat addition. I liked that the game gave you the option to inspect, as well as put events in chronological order to visualize the memory. I wish there were more details in the narrative, and not so vague references to “The Sleeper”, but it kept me curious as I was wondering what direction the game was heading in.
