If you’re looking to play this game, you’re nearly a decade too late. RIFT is to this day one of the most unique MMORPG’s of all time. The dimension system, the versatility of customizing your class, the dyes & wardrobe system, and so much more were just AMAZING for their time. AoE loot in your favorite mmo? Thank RIFT for that, Transmogs in WoW? Wouldn’t exist in its current form without RIFT. This was so unique and such an amazing experience that its honestly sad that gamigo has left it to die. You cannot experience this game anymore because this game can simply no longer be experienced properly, and will almost certainly never be able to be experienced properly again as sad as that is to say.
But it was a massive part of my life for years, and had an enormous impact on the MMORPG genre as a whole. Maybe give it a shot as a single player experience if you’re interested in experiencing some of what it had to offer, but realize you’re walking into a ghost town. I really like the story the game has and the different way the story is presented when either a Guardian or Defiant; I like the ‘fine, I’ll do it myself’ nature the Defiants have, plus big death machines, and the Guardians have very visually interesting landscapes and the story makes me feel like I’m a crusader spreading and preserving the good of the gods.
