I played both Ghost Warrior games back in 2014 and reviewed them with a negative outcome. Then several years later I revisited Ghost Warrior 2 and gave it a thumbs-up. So, we have 3 maps each with a safe house where we have to go to launch our next mission whether it is a main mission where we continue the story or just a side mission. Question marks on the map indicate places that mainly function as areas for collectibles and also for fast travelling. They also include locations with people to save. There really are a lot of places to go.

Looking for vantage points before infiltrating a base is the most fun part of the game. Pressing CTRL puts us in the so-called scout mode which highlights objects or other areas in our surroundings that can be interacted with. This includes climbing a steep, rocky hill that the game refers to as a place for extreme navigation. We have a car we can use to drive around but driving off road is difficult. In the end walking is better and a fast travel location is always close to our next objective. I, of course, used the car regularly but mainly for collectible hunting. Driving through or by an outpost is eerily similar to what I experienced in Far Cry 2: enemies are sharpshooters and your car does not give you protection for long. Leaving a map and then returning makes all enemies respawn.
Our hero, Jon, takes a drone with him. Once reaching high-ground our best bet is to send it out immediately as it helps tag enemies. Enemy snipers are sometimes pain but a calm sea doesn’t make a sailor, right? Now let’s talk about the strange stuff. You rescue a lot of people who simply disappear following your interaction with them. The very first such mission shows them thanking you then walking to a car and driving away. Later on the image just fades out and they disappear. I guess they expected some gamers to follow them to see how far they can go? Let’s not worry about them just make them disappear. It was much easier.
You cannot get new cars. Now what does that lead a gamer to believe? That eventually it’ll become unlockable. No, never. You get a buggy as a DLC and that’s it. Oh, and you can drive trucks as part of some side missions. It would have been nice driving an armored vehicle (what the enemies have) with the inclusion of mounting their weapon.
