You will found no game today that works that way. The whole map is divided into squares and you move one square at the time. You have four people in the party, in formation, 2 in front row, 2 in second row. Second row characters basically can not use melee weapons cause they can not reach the enemy.
there is skill that you can take that you can use second row guys to attack with swords, but it is better to use them as a mage and/or guy that uses pistol or musket. Or throwing weapons. You have many options what and how to use. This is a classic RPG, with skills and upgrading and items, and this great movement way, that was considered in the past as something that is not so cool.
